Checked on the official help page: · Applies in: Australia, New Zealand
Steps
- Sign in at https://www.hbomax.com/subscription (or in the app: profile > Subscription).
- The top of the screen shows who bills you.
- Billed by HBO Max: choose Cancel Your Subscription and confirm.
- No cancel option: cancel with the company that bills you (Apple, Google Play, your telco…).
Good to know
Renews until cancelled; deleting the app does not cancel. You can stream until the end of the billing period. AU third-party billers include Apple, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, Roku, Samsung TV, Prime Video Channels and internet / mobile / TV providers; NZ: Prime Video Channels or your internet, mobile or TV provider. In Canada HBO content is on Crave.

Paying through the App Store or Google Play?
If you signed up inside an app on your phone, the subscription is usually billed by Apple or Google, not by the service itself. Then you cancel it in your Apple account or in Google Play – deleting the app does not cancel it.

Still being charged after you cancelled?
- Check that you cancelled the right account and look for the provider’s cancellation confirmation (e-mail or account page).
- Check who bills you: a charge from Apple, Google, PayPal or your phone or internet provider has to be cancelled with them.
- Contact the provider’s support, with the date you cancelled and the charge from your statement.
- Ask your bank or card issuer to stop the recurring payment. You can also ask them about a chargeback for a charge made after you cancelled – the issuer’s own rules decide.

- Consumer Affairs Victoria – Victoria.
- ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) – to report misleading conduct or subscription traps.
